1983: DW-5000

The first G-SHOCK — the DW-5000 — made its debut in 1983. Its timeless design, perfected from the ground up, was born from the pursuit of ultimate toughness avoiding all outward signs.

1989: AW-500

The design concept was soon inherited by the first analog G-SHOCK model — the AW-500 — released in 1989. This concept was realized with a rock-solid design that looked almost like it was carved from a single block of resin, removing everything inconsequential.

2019: The GA-2100

The first GA-2100 watch was introduced in 2019, expanding the possibilities of analog toughness and style. Inheriting the design framework of the DW-5000 and AW-500 concepts, it leverages the latest technology to capture the essence of their identity in a new physical form. This means creating a new standard bearer for G-SHOCK, reimagined from the point of view of the brand's beginnings, now some 30 years after the debut of the AW-500.

New Technology, New Design

Development concept: slim and compact. The determination to stay away from outsiders is realized not only in design, but also in terms of size. It will require revolutionary new technologies — from thin modules to Carbon Core Controller structures — to achieve this goal. Distilling the essence of the original DW-5000 design, this watch introduces a reworked form that is sure to seamlessly integrate with contemporary lifestyle and fashion.

Paris, Hamburg, New York and Shanghai... impressions gathered from points around the world inform the design work. Many sketches were made, and designs were drawn and revised in a careful process of trial and error. Finally a new watch was born, featuring a minimalist design with an octagonal bezel.
